Kournas Monastery |
| Kournas Monastery was established during the Genoan occupation (1346 -1566) by the Roman Catholics of Chios. During the Turkish occupation it was turned over to the Orthodoxes and was annexed as the "kathisma" (the women s section) of Nea Moni monastery. The church with its beautiful wall frescoes, honors the name of Zoodochos Pyghi (Life-giving Spring). The monastery no longer functions, but a large festival is held on its feast day. |
