Delphini

Thucydides describes Delphini, familiar because of events in the Peloponnesian War, as "a village rich in land possessing a harbor and not far from the city of Chios."
North of the harbor, at the acropolis of Delphini, remnants of the wall and a series of towers on its south and west side have been found. It would seem from the Masonry that was built in a great hurry and it’s maximum preserved height is 0.5 m. The wall is part of the fortifications constructed by the Athenians in 412 BC, and captured and destroyed by the Spartans in 407 BC. |
