Aghia Matrona Monastery

Aghia Matrona Monastery was built in 1470 near the village of Mesa Didyma by the nobleman Roidis. Originally, he intended constructing a summer villa until the saint entered his sleep and instructed him to build a monastery instead. Roidis’ two sisters became the first nuns there. During the Turkish occupation, the holy Nikiforos of Chios was the monastery’s spiritual leader. Nikiforos wrote the Divine Liturgy’s 24 hymns of Saint Matrona. There are four nuns in the monastery today. Its feast day is October 20.

Comment:I was very touched to hear that there is only one nun left in the monastery. What has happened to our religious beliefs. Wow I hope we can all pitch in and help. God bless everyone!

Comment:It is a shame that no one really knows about this monastery. Saint Matrona has done alot for my family and the first time i tried to find the church i had to ask about 20 taxi drivers where it was. Only one knew. There are only 2 nuns left their and to tell you the truth they need all the help they can get. So go and visit this monanstery you will not regret it and trust me she will help you out too.
